NormCyber Report Reveals UK Businesses Faced Millions of Automated Cyber Threats in March 2023

NormCyber, the acclaimed managed security service provider catering to mid-sized organizations, has exposed the alarming extent of cyber threats targeting UK businesses. According to their recent data snapshot for March 2023, mid-sized businesses employing fewer than 250 individuals encountered an astonishing 159 million cyber threats on average. For larger enterprises with over 250 employees, the average number of threats soared to a staggering 1.13 billion.

The data collected by NormCyber was based on the cybersecurity events processed through its state-of-the-art smartbloc. CSaaS platform. Despite processing billions of events during the month, only a small fraction necessitated action. For mid-sized organizations, merely 764 alerts demanded investigation and/or remediation by NormCyber’s UK-based Security Operations Centre (SOC). Among these, a mere 16 incidents were deemed serious enough to alert the customer. For larger companies, an average of 2,421 alerts required SOC investigation, with only 12 incidents warranting customer attention.

Commenting on the severity of the escalating cyber threats, Pete Bowers, COO of NormCyber, expressed his concern, stating, “With the magnitude of cyber threats now facing organisations, it’s difficult to comprehend how smaller in-house IT teams can work out which events require investigation and action. It’s hardly surprising that they can’t see the wood for the trees – and yet, it only takes one incident to slip through the net for there to be potentially devastating consequences. Companies which lack an effective and automated method for processing and filtering these threats will very soon find themselves suffering from alert fatigue, which can further drain their resources and place them at risk.”

To aid businesses in prioritizing and addressing the threats posing the greatest risk to their operations, NormCyber has introduced new vulnerability and patch management reporting capabilities to its smartbloc. LIVE customer dashboard. This enhancement allows customers to track rolled-out patches and their distribution across machines, encompassing patches for Windows, Linux, and Mac operating systems, as well as over 300 third-party applications. Furthermore, businesses can now identify which vulnerabilities require immediate patching and which can be resolved through configuration changes, enabling them to strengthen their security in the most efficient manner.

Unlike conventional technology-focused deployments, smartbloc. sets itself apart by providing 24×7 managed cybersecurity protection, along with penetration testing, continuous cyber safety training, and support for certification, compliance, and incident response, all complemented by a team of legal experts. The platform combines profound technical expertise with straightforward reporting for the C-suite, granting decision-makers the crucial visibility and actionable guidance needed to formulate effective cybersecurity and data protection strategies.
