£18 Million Boost for Electric Truck Grants Calls for Swift Action from Dealerships

A prominent electrical engineering firm has urged commercial transport dealerships across the UK to act promptly to capitalise on an £18 million enhancement to the government’s Plug-in Truck Grant scheme.

The increased funding will reduce the cost of new electric trucks by up to £120,000 until March, providing a significant incentive for fleet operators to transition to cleaner vehicles.

Joe Collison, managing director of Shropshire-based CES, welcomed the announcement and emphasised the importance of dealerships moving quickly to maximise benefits for their customers. He also stressed the necessity for dealerships and operators to collaborate closely to ensure that adequate charging infrastructure is in place, allowing new electric trucks to be deployed without delay.

Collison stated: “This funding injection is a substantial boost for the sector at a time when businesses face mounting pressure to reduce emissions and update their fleets. The three-month window for this enhanced support means dealerships that act swiftly will be best positioned to assist customers in making the switch to electric vehicles.”

He further noted the growing demand for charging infrastructure within the commercial vehicle sector, adding: “Dealerships must support customers in planning for reliable charging solutions by engaging experienced installation experts early in the process. CES brings extensive expertise in installing heavy-duty vehicle chargers and stands ready to assist dealerships and operators in fully leveraging this opportunity.”

The revised grant structure offers savings of up to £20,000 for smaller electric trucks weighing between 4.25 and 12 tonnes, an increase from the previous £16,000. For mid-sized trucks of 12 to 18 tonnes, the grant has risen to £60,000; for trucks between 18 and 26 tonnes, it is now £80,000; and the maximum discount of £120,000 applies to trucks weighing 26 tonnes and above.
