From Meadow to Mist: Scottish Botanist Harnesses Nature’s Bounty
The new products, Seilich Meadow Micellar Water and Seilich Meadow Face Mist, contain over 90% meadow-grown botanicals handpicked from the company’s wildflower meadows in Midlothian. With ambitions to triple production and supply ingredients to other companies, Seilich aims to expand its sustainable sourcing while creating more wildflower habitats.
A Scottish skincare company has harvested the power of nature to launch two new products made with handpicked botanicals from the Midlothian countryside, near Edinburgh. Dr Sally Gouldstone, botanist and founder of Seilich has been creating sustainable and award-winning skincare products from hand-picked ingredients on 16 acres of wildflower meadows on the outskirts of Edinburgh since 2018.
Seilich, the award-winning beauty sustainable Scottish skincare company has launched two new skincare products Seilich Meadow Micellar Water and Seilich Meadow Face Mist. Sally said; “The products have been in development for a year. I really wanted to make special products that celebrate the unique, fresh, pure ingredients sourced here in wildflower meadows. Everything we use is grown under organic, wildlife-friendly conditions with plants carefully hand-picked, then turned into precious botanical extracts on the same day. We can only launch now when the botanicals are in the perfect condition to be harvested.”
The botanicals are handpicked to ensure the wildflowers are of the best quality. Sally said; “We only take 10% of each specific plant species to leave a flourishing biodiverse meadow. This careful treatment ensures the highest ingredient provenance and the shortest most traceable supply chain possible. All our skincare products are made on-site in our workshop.”
“The main ingredients are floral waters that we make using traditional copper stills. We use low-carbon cold process methods which are better for your skin and retain more beneficial compounds. Many of these ingredients are unique to Seilich and can’t be found in other skincare products.”
“Both the meadow face mist and meadow micellar water are packed full of sustainably grown meadow botanicals. Our existing skincare range contains around 80 per cent, but these two are the purest of all our range. They contain over ninety per cent of meadow-grown ingredients in total (by weight) all handpicked from the Seilich wildflower meadow.”
Seilich Meadow Micellar Water: The micellar water has been specially formulated to gently but effectively remove impurities, make-up and daily grime from the skin. It contains ninety per cent (total weight) of exclusively meadow-grown ingredients. The botanicals it contains are sustainably grown in Scotland with ten different meadow species including chamomile, meadowsweet, daisy and self heal, all sourced directly from the wildflower meadow in Midlothian.
Seilich Meadow Face Mist: is carefully formulated from meadow grown plants including; meadowsweet, nettle, wild carrot, chamomile and yarrow, to hydrate and freshen. It also contains ninety per cent (total weight) of meadow grown ingredients. The face mist contains eleven different meadow species ideal for cooling down and protecting delicate skin.
Sally is passionate about working in partnership with nature and said: “My ambition is to grow the business over the next few years, tripling production over the next 24 months with a 50:50 split between direct-to-consumer and retail sales and we are actively looking to partner with more stockists. In the future, I hope to begin supplying our unique ingredients to other skincare companies and produce our own pressed oils this will enable us to expand and grow even more wild flower meadow habitats.”
