Shining a Light on Untold Stories: Discovery Education Unveils Black History Resources

In a move to educate and inspire pupils across the UK, global edtech leader Discovery Education has unveiled a powerful new collection of digital learning resources celebrating Black History Month. The suite of engaging, high-quality materials shines a spotlight on the untold stories and perspectives of Black history and culture.

The comprehensive resources, available through Discovery Education’s award-winning Espresso platform, have been carefully curated to help teachers integrate lessons on Black history and culture throughout the academic year, not just during the annual observance in October. From early years to Key Stage 2, the content aims to empower educators to engage students with new and powerful narratives that have often been overlooked.

At the heart of the collection is an insightful interview with renowned historian and author David Olusoga, who underscores the importance of teaching Black history in schools. Engaging videos explore the lives of trailblazers like Rosa Parks, Mary Seacole, and NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson, while animated extracts from the bestselling “Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls” series feature Nigerian writer and feminist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Bite-sized lessons differentiated by Key Stage and “Who Am I?” question sheets encourage pupils to delve deeper into the stories of Black pioneers, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of their contributions.

The Black History Month resources are accessible to Discovery Education subscriber schools through the Espresso platform, a curriculum-centred daily learning service tailored for primary schools.
