Consort Digital and Niral Networks Launch India’s First 5G Mission-Critical Network for Railways

Consort Digital and Niral Networks are set to revolutionise railway communications by deploying India’s first 5G-based mission-critical network along the Mathura–Chata corridor, located within the North Central Railway zone. This indigenous pilot project represents a significant advancement in validating next-generation private 5G infrastructure tailored for railway-grade operational communications.

The initiative covers a 31-kilometre stretch of railway track and establishes a 5G Standalone (SA) network utilising homegrown Radio Access Network (RAN) and Core components. The deployment demonstrates the capability to deliver high-speed connectivity, ultra-reliable low-latency communication, and mission-critical voice, video, and data services over a 5G architecture specifically designed for railway operations.

Functioning as a technology demonstrator, the project incorporates real-time railway operational scenarios to ensure seamless communication between trains, stations, and control centres under live conditions. This pilot is expected to accelerate the modernisation of railway communication systems by facilitating the transition from legacy networks to advanced IP-based 5G platforms.

By showcasing mission-critical services on an indigenous 5G platform, the project enhances operational safety, boosts coordination efficiency, and establishes a scalable digital framework for future railway corridors. It also underscores India’s commitment to developing a self-reliant telecommunications ecosystem for critical infrastructure sectors.

Niral Networks is responsible for deploying the indigenous 5G Core, which forms the backbone of the Standalone architecture, ensuring secure and reliable private 5G connectivity. Meanwhile, Consort Digital will implement its MCX ONE mission-critical platform, integrating onboard train radio systems, control room solutions, handheld devices, and fixed communication terminals at railway stations. This comprehensive deployment enables end-to-end mission-critical voice, video, and data communication over the 5G network, designed specifically to meet railway operational requirements.

“The deployment of MCX ONE over an indigenous 5G network marks a transformative shift in railway communications. This proof of concept illustrates how mission-critical platforms can operate seamlessly on next-generation 5G infrastructure to enhance operational safety, coordination, and scalability for Indian Railways,” stated Sarabjeet Bhasin, Director of Consort Digital.

Abhijit Chaudhary, Founder and CEO of Niral Networks, added, “This project validates the capability of indigenous 5G Core technology to support demanding, real-time railway environments. We are proud to collaborate in building a secure and future-ready 5G foundation for mission-critical railway applications.”
