Vismo Equips Imo Boddy with Satellite Tracking for 423-Mile Record Attempt

JOGLE (John o’Groats to Land’s End ) World Record Holder and ultra runner Imo Boddy is gearing up for another huge effort as she attempts to break the record for the Three Peaks Challenge, set in 1979 by Olympian Ann Sayer. Her endeavour, co-sponsored by Vismo, involves climbing and running between the UK’s highest mountains – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, a distance of 423 miles or 680 kms, starting on 15th May, in under seven days, 31 minutes.

Global tracking specialist Vismo is also loaning Imo three satellite communication devices –  Garmin Mini, Garmin Mini 2 and a Garmin Montana 700i. Between them they will load her location into Map Share, allowing friends and relatives to monitor where she is, with the Garmin Montana 700i giving Imo her precise location from when she sets off from Fort William, Scotland, to her end destination, Caernarfon in Wales.

The devices will also enable Vismo to know her location via the Vismo Secure Portal, and share that information with her coach and support team.

Yorkshire-raised Imo (24) became the youngest known female to run the length of Britain in 2022, running 40 miles (60 kms) a day for 22 days from John o’Groats to Land’s End, a total of 833 miles or 1340 kms. And in 2021 she ran seven marathons in seven days to raise awareness of mental health for the mental health charity MIND.

Her latest extreme endurance challenge tests not only physical stamina but also mental fortitude, with Imo navigating some of the most demanding landscapes under variable weather conditions.

“Trying to break the Three Peaks record is more than a personal goal. It’s about setting a new benchmark in endurance sports and inspiring other young women to push their limits,” says Imo. “I count myself incredibly lucky to have an extended family who support me no matter what and truly believe I am capable of this challenge.”

Vismo’s equipment and tracking capabilities are not new to challenges faced in environments where phone signals are weak or non-existent. They have previously been deployed for explorer Levison Wood for his 4,250 mile (6840 km) trek along the Nile in 2013, and across the Himalayas in 2015-16; the 4000 mile (6500 km) Amazon River Run – an expedition by kayak in 2015; and for a research expedition to a volcano in Tanzania in 2019, where the Vismo App and a satellite tracker were used by UCL’s Kate Laxon.
