Wayfarer Theaters Marks Reopening of Payson’s Historic Stadium Cinemas Venue

On Friday, 27 March, Wayfarer Theaters officially reopened the doors of the 25-year-old community cinema formerly known as Stadium Cinemas in Payson, ushering in a new chapter for the beloved local venue.

Steve Sarowitz, founder and CEO of Wayfarer Theaters, emphasised the significance of the theatre to the community, stating, “This theater has been part of Payson for a quarter century. We acquired Stadium Cinemas because we saw a community that reflects the positive values we strive to bring to the industry. This isn’t just a theater—it’s where Payson families make memories.” Sarowitz will be available for interviews with local residents and media throughout the week commencing 23 March.

The reopening event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11am on 27 March, with Payson Mayor Bill Wright joining Sarowitz at the theatre located at 633 S 950 W, Payson, UT 84651.

Wayfarer Theaters has undertaken renovations to enhance the historic venue, including upgraded restrooms, refreshed signage, and aesthetic improvements designed to maintain the theatre’s original character while preparing it for future audiences.

Reflecting Wayfarer’s mission that “If it starts in darkness, it should end in light,” the programming will continue to showcase a diverse range of films. This includes first-run blockbusters as well as independent, foreign, and classic movies aimed at enriching the human spirit.

Beyond film screenings, Wayfarer envisions the theatre as a community hub. The venue will offer free activities for families, encouraging patrons to arrive early and stay late. It is also available for private rentals, youth group events, special occasions, live performances, and filmmaker discussions.
